Word has been received here that a Crawfordsville sailor has been lost at sea and presumed drowned. According to members of his family, the U.S. Navy has notified them that Quartermaster Second Class Ira Lee Livengood was missing from the USS Stormes in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Italy. The seaman reportedly was standing on the deck of the ship when last seen and is presumed to have been swept overboard. His body has not been recovered. Livengood, 21, was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School in 1960. He joined the Navy after graduation from high school and completed basic training at the Great Lakes, Ill., Naval Training Center in March of 1961. After basic, he was sent to Newport, R.I., where he attended Navy Quartermaster School. He is survived by his wife Carol, a native of Pennsylvania; his mother, Mrs. Frances Livengood, formerly of 500 Tinsley Ave., now residing at Lafayette; four sisters and two brothers. Memorial services for the missing seaman were conducted at Norfolk, Va.
