HILLSBORO - Archie E. Lighty, Sr., 84, died Tuesday night in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Danville, Ill. He was a resident of Hillsboro for 53 years. He was a member of the Hillsboro Nazarene Church and the Hillsboro American Legion, Post 188. He attended schools at Veedersburg, and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War I. He retired in 1957 from C. L. Snyder Engineering Company at Hillsboro. Born Nov. 19, 1898, at Veedersburg, he was a son of James and Mary Neal Lighty. He was married on Feb. 11, 1920, at Glasgow, Ky., to Virgie Stringfield. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Estel Jr. of Veedersburg, Marion of Hillsboro, and James R. of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Betty) Chezem of Darlington; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Sams of Veedersburg and Mrs. Ruth Hullinger of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Delbert and Calvin, both of Orlando, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Crumley-Williams Funeral Home at Hillsboro. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Thursday.
