Livengood - Mary Groves

Mary Livengood, 92, died Saturday morning in a hospital at Lake Wales, Fla., after a brief illness. She was a resident of Crawfordsville from 1922 until 1965. Her husband, Verne W. Livengood, was president of the Citizens National Bank at the time of its merger with Elston Bank & Trust Co. in 1952. He died in 1954. Mrs. Livengood was born near Waynetown on Jan. 8, 1882, a daughter of Aquilla W. and Lenorah Russell Groves. She and Mr. Livengood were married in the Groves family home in 1901. Mrs. Livengood had been an active member of the First Christian Church here and in the various music organizations of the city. She was also a member of the Art League and American Legion Auxiliary. During her residency in Lake Wales she continued her church and music interests. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Lake Wales and played the piano for the Sunday School until shortly before her last illness. She is survived by a son, Harry S. Livengood of Lake Wales; a grandson, Harry Livengood, and, two great-grandchildren, Kevin and Karen of Orlando, Fla.; a cousin, Jessie Groves of Crawfordsville; nephews, Charles T. Groves and Aquilla W. Groves of Crawfordsville, Errett Z. Groves of Kansas City and Leslie R. Groves of Macon, Mo.; and a niece, Helen Lennard of Ottawa, Kan. Memorial services are being held in Lake Wales. Memorial services will be held here at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, in the Chapel of the First Christian Church with burial in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. - kbz
