John W. Linn, late of this county, died last Friday at the Soldiers' Home at Lafayette. He had been in feeble health for some time He was a good soldier during the war and was a member of McPherson Post. G. A. R of this city. -- transcribed by Kim H

John Wilson Linn was born in Butler County, Ohio, Dec. 22, 1832, died May 7, 1897, at the Indiana Soldiers’ Home Hospital, near Lafayette, Ind.

Deceased came to Indiana in 1856 and has been a resident of Montgomery County since that time, except three years and three months spent in the service of his country, first in the 17th Ind. Vol. for three months, and then in Co. E, 15th Ind. Vol. for three years. He joined the M. E. Church in January, 1867, at the organization of the Mt. Tabor M. E. Church. About three years ago he identified himself with the Primitive Baptist Church of Crawfordsville. He was a member of McPherson Post, G. A. R., of Crawfordsville, and it was largely through their kindness that he was brought to his old home for interment. He was a brave soldier in the service of his country.

The disease from which he died was softening of the brain. His funeral took place from the Shiloh M. E. Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. H. C. Riley, of the M. E. Church at Mace, officiating. He was buried by McPherson Post G. A. R., in the cemetery near by. A large gathering attended the funeral. -s
