HILLSBORO - Archie E. Lighty, Sr., 84, died Tuesday night in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Danville, Ill. He was a resident of Hillsboro for 53 years. He was a member of the Hillsboro Nazarene Church and the Hillsboro American Legion, Post 188. He attended schools at Veedersburg, and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War I. He retired in 1957 from C. L. Snyder Engineering Company at Hillsboro. Born Nov. 19, 1898, at Veedersburg, he was a son of James and Mary Neal Lighty. He was married on Feb. 11, 1920, at Glasgow, Ky., to Virgie Stringfield. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Estel Jr. of Veedersburg, Marion of Hillsboro, and James R. of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Betty) Chezem of Darlington; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Sams of Veedersburg and Mrs. Ruth Hullinger of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Delbert and Calvin, both of Orlando, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Crumley-Williams Funeral Home at Hillsboro. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Thursday.

Archie E. Lighty of Hillsboro, age 84, died Tuesday, March 29, in the Danville, Illinois Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born in Veedersburg, November 19, 1898, the son of James and Mary Neal Lighty. February 11, 1920, he married Virgie Stringfield, who survives. Lighty was a member of Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene and American Legion Post 188. He retired in 1957 from C. L. Snyder Construction Company of Hillsboro. He attended school in Veedersburg and was a Navy veteran of World War I.
Also surviving are three sons, Estel Jr. of Veedersburg, Marion of Hillsboro and James R. of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Betty Chezem of Darlington; two sisters, Elsie Sams of Veedersburg and Ruth Hullinger of Orlando, Florida; two brothers, Delbert and Calvin, both of Orlando; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Crumley-Williams Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Hillsboro. – thanks to S
