James LOGAN, an aged resident of Thorntown passed away
Saturday at 12 o'clock following a 7-year invalidism. Eight years ago
the aged man fell and broke his hip since which time he has been
confined to his home most of the time. For the past three years he has
been almost helpless. He became ill January 1st of this year his
condition becoming worse until death Saturday. The funeral will be held
today (Monday) at 2 o'clock and will be in charge of Rev. Hugh Ronald of
1st Presbyterian Church, Thorntown. Deceased was born in Bath County,
Kentucky Jan 18, 1830. He was 85 Years 6 Months and 20 Days at the time
of his demise. He was (no name) married 30 Aug 1849 and to this union 12
girls and three boys were born, 3 dying in infancy. Children living
are: Mrs. Ellen Boots of Colfax, Mrs. Martha Bowman and Mrs. Malissa
Broshar of Lebanon, Mrs. Amelia Powell of Bainbridge, Mrs. Lou Bell of
Ladoga, Mrs. Mary Dixon, Mrs. Hattie Leagan, Mrs. Maggie Crouther and
Joseph Logan all of Thorntown. His first wife died July 8, 1886 and on
Aug 10, 1892 he was married to Elizabeth Aldrich the latter wife
surviving. He was a veteran of the Civil War having served four years.
Besides the nine children there are 30 grandchildren and four greats,
one sister and brother. Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian Church
and was known as a kind husband and loving father. He lived in
Thorntown more than 25 years and has a large number of friends to mourn
