Lewis - son of Albert - drowned 1896

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday, 15 May 1896

New Ross, May 12—Sunday morning a thirteen year old son of Albert Lewis, of Advance, went bathing with a number of companions in a gravel pit near by. The lad could not swim and was told by his companions not to go in, but he was determined to go in anyway. He waded into the water and suddenly disappeared. When he arose an attempt was made to rescue him, and one of the other boys came nearly being drawn down by the drowning boy. All attempts were of no avail and he went down in eighteen feet of water. It took some time to recover the body. The deceased was the only son of Albert Lewis and they have the sympathy of the neighborhood. -s
