Waynetown - Herbert G. Lewellen, a lifelong resident of Waynetown was pronounced dead on arrival at 7:15 a.m. today in Lake View Hospital, Danville, Ill. Mr. Lewellen was a member of Wesleyan United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 445 at Waynetown. He also belonged to the WWI Barracks at Crawfordsville. A veteran of WWI, Mr. Lewellen served in the US Navy aboard the USS Maine. He was a graduate of Waynetown HS and attended Wabsh College. Born at Waynetown, July 21, 1897 he was the son of Thomas & Frances Moore Lewellen. He married Opal Cruea of Waynetown in July 1921. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Herbert Galen of Willard, Ohio a daughter, Mrs. Phillip (Margaret ) Biddle of Waynetown; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Wm . Flanigan officiating. Burial in Wayentown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 pm. Wednesday. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Waynetown Post. - kbz

WAYNETOWN - Herbert G. Lewellen, 79, of Waynetown, was pronounced dead-on-arrival at 7:15 a.m. Monday (June 6, 1977) at the Lakeview Medical Center in Danville, Ill. Death was due to a heart attack. He was a former custodian at the Waynetown State Bank. Born July 21, 1897, at Waynetown, he was the son of Thomas and Francis Moore Lewellen. On July 14, 1921, in Waynetown, he married Opal E. Cruea, who survives. He was a graduate of Waynetown High in 1915 and attended Wabash College. He was a World War I Navy veteran. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 445, both of Waynetown, and World War I Barracks of Crawfordsville. Survivors include a son, Herbert Galen of Willard, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Phillip (Margaret) Biddle of Waynetown; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Thomas Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Flannigan officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, with American Legion conducting graveside services. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. - jlr
