Hillsboro - Mrs. Alta B. Leighty, 67, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at her home located east of here. She had been in failing health for several months and was a patient in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill for a period of time. Born June 27, 1892, north of Newtown, she was a daughter of Albert and Norma Parent Porter. She married Carl E. Porter March 24, 1910. Mrs. Leighty attended school at Mellott and was a member of the Congregational Christian Church there. She was also a member of Dorcas Temple Pythian Sisters and was past worthy matron of Fern Chapter of Hillsboro OES. Mr. and Mrs. Leighty were in business here for a number of years. They operated a greenhouse and grocery store before moving to a farm east of here. They spent their entire married life in the Mellott and Hillsboro communities. Only survivor is the husband. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Tabith Banks, a brother and her parents. Her daughter died Oct 11, 1953. Funeral rites are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crumley Funeral Home here with Rev. William Q. McKnight officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Monday.
