John W. Lehman, 76, a retired farmer, died at his home, 905 West Wabash avenue, Thursday morning at 6:55 o'clock, following an illness of three days. His death was caused by apoplexy. Mr. Lehman was born in Plainfield, Ind., on December 10, 1860, the son of Jacob and Lydia Lehman. On July 11, 1888, he was married at Lebanon to Rena Kersey. The deceased, who had been a resident of this city since 1930, attended Danville Normal and taught school for a short time. He was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife and eleven children, Mrs. Ocia Abney, of Mankato, Wis.; Leonard Lehman, of Chisholm, Minn., Mrs. Adrua Massing of this city, Mrs. Zora Fletcher, of Darlington, Mrs. Leona Scheid of Chicago, Mrs. Ada Patton, of Shelbyville, Inc., Mrs. Elizabeth Linn of Bloomington, Ind., Mrs. Dessie Marty of Beckley, W. Va., Capt. A. J. Lehman, of Mitchell Field, Long Island, N. Y., who is prominent in national and army aviation circles and Mrs. Georgia Russell and Mrs. Dortha Patterson, both of this city. Eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. One son, Walter Lehman, died on January 5, 1919. The body was taken from the Profitt & Son Funeral home to the family residence late Thursday afternoon. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
* * * * * The funeral of John Lehman will be conducted from the Trinity Methodist Church, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of the Rev. Earl Moore, assisted by the Rev. B. E. Antrobus. Interment will be made in the Greenlawn Cemetery at Darlington. The remains will lie in state one hour preceding the service.
* * * * * The funeral of John W. Lehman was conducted at the Trinity Methodist Church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in charge of the Rev. Earl Moore, assisted by Rev. B. E. Antrobus. Burial was made in the Greenlawn cemetery at Darlington. Pall bearers were Roy Jarrell, Walter Jarrell, Frank Beck, Omar Beck, Noble Beck and Bert Essex. Flowers bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Massing, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Massing, Miss Marjorie Fletcher, Miss Martha Fletcher, Miss Twila J. Patton, Miss Lucille Hershberger, Margaret Fulwider, Bernice Petitt, Thelma Petitt, May Hartley, Grace Walsh, Wanda Walling, Arra Laymon, Thelma Rutledge, Beth Roberts and Thelma Warren. The Proffit and Sons quartet, composed of Mr. and Mrs. Lester McClamrock, Mrs. Ernest Breaks and Raymond Dorsey sang Sweet Hour of Prayer, and Rock of Ages, accompanied by Miss Iva Reynolds at the piano.
