Relatives here have received word that the body of Col. Arthur J. Lehman, former resident of Crawfordsville who was killed in an airplane crash on Blak Island in the Pacific July 29, 1944, has arrived in Oakland, Cal. Mrs. Isabelle Lehman, of Pamona, Cal., widow of Col. Lehman, has been notified by the Department of the Army that the body will arrive in Pamona one day this week. Services will be held at Pamona, with burial there. Col. Lehman, 46, was commander of the Seventh Service group of the Army Air force at the time of his death. A graduate of Darlington high with the class of 1917, Col. Lehman was graduated from Wabash college with the class of 1921. Two years after his graduation from Wabash he entered the Army and continued in the service until the time of his death. When he left for active duty in the South Pacific in November, 1943, Col. Lehman was an instructor at Kellogg Field, in Battle Creek, Mich. Following his death, Mrs. Lehman and their four children moved to Pamona. The children are Arthur James, Cora Lee, Albert Carter and Eleanor Louise Lehman. In addition to the widow and four children, one brother and nine sisters survive. The brother, Leonard Lehman, lives in Chisholm, Minn. Sisters are Mrs. Ocia Abney, of Mankato, Minn., Mrs. Zora Fletcher, of Thorntown; Mrs. Leona Scheid, of Chicago, Mrs. Ada Patton, of Shelbyville, Mrs. Dessia Marty and Mrs. Betty Linn, both of Bloomington, Mrs. Georgia Grisson of Cincinnati, O., and Mrs. Audria Massing and Mrs. Dorothea Patterson, both of Crawfordsville. Mrs. J. W. Lehman, mother of Col. Lehman, and who resided in Crawfordsville many years, died in March 1943.
