Lee - James Madison

James Madison Lee, aged 64, and one of the pioneer business men of Crawfordsville, passed away at his home, 814 S. Washington St, Thursday night about 10 o'clock. Mr. Lee had been in ill health for some time past but it was only recently that his illness took a serious turn. Funeral services will be held from the home Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Rev. JH Oliphant officiating and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Lee was born in this state March 20, 1847, being 64 years, 5 months 17 days old at his demise. He came to this city in an early day and established one of the first laundries in Crawfordsville, continuing actively in that business until a week or two ago when illness forced him to retire. He was the son of James and Elizabeth Newhart Lee. Besides the widow; Mrs. Mary E. Lee, he is survived by five daughters: Hazel, Helen, Mabel, Camilla and Opal, and three sons: Willis, Harley, and Rudy. All the children are residents of Crawfordsville. Mr. Lee was a member of the Christian Church for many years. - transcribed by kbz
