Layson - Tennie

Source: Crawfordsille Weekly Journal Friday, 30 March 1900

The life work of Tennie Layson is finished. So complete and beautiful has been this young life that its influence must ever be a gracious benediction. Her very presence among her child friends was refining. She thought no evil, she chided no one, and she loved all. She found no task too great, no lesson too hard. With faithfulness rare in one so young, she met and overcame her difficulties. Her loyalty to her friends was touching. Her purity was reflected in them. Her thoughtfulness for others was daily exemplified. Her many kind acts will never die. Well and nobly has she lived her twelve years. Truly can it be said that she has come into her inheritance of peace and perfect happiness. Think what earth is compared to the world, to which her young spirit has winged its early flight, and say, if one deliberate wish expressed in solemn terms, could call her back to life, which of us would utter it? And so let us take to heart the lesson she has taught by her life, and from every tear shed, “may some good be born, some gentler nature come.” – thanks to S for this one
