Leard Layne, 75-year-old retired farmer of this community, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Westbrook Nursing Home in Crawfordsville. He had been in failing health for six months. A native of Boone County, he was born July 16, 1888 to Joseph and Lorinda Isa Beck Layne. He was wed in Crawfordsville Aug. 29, 1912 to Forest Rose Arnold, who died Feb. 26, 1962. Surviving are a son, Virgil Cletus Layne of Russellville; three daughters, Mrs. Juanita Todd and Mrs. Marcella Waldon of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Ruth Nichols of Chicago; three brothers, Alonzo of New Market, Emanuel of Washington state and Marcus of California; three sisters, Mrs. Velma Swank of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Artie VanHorn and Mrs. Marie Ward of Danville, Ind., and 22 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Noble Reeves Funeral home here, with Rev. Calvin Miller officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Crawfordsville. Friends may call at the funeral home.
