NEW MARKET — Alonzo C. Layne, 64, co-owner of the Layne-Myers Grain Co. here, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at his home. He had been in poor health about five years. He had been a member of the New Market school board and had worked for L.G. Etter & Son at New Market for 20 years before he entered the grain business. He was a member of the Ladoga Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite at Indianapolis. He was born Feb. 19, 1901, near New Market to Joseph and Lorinda Beck Layne. He was married to Opal Dulin. Survivors include his wife; a son, Leland of New Market; a daughter, Mrs. Lorinda J. Myers of New Market; three sisters, Mrs. Fred VanHorn of Danville, Ind., Mrs. Velma Swank of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Marie Ward of Indianapolis; two brothers, Marcus of California and Emanuel of Oregon and five grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Noble Reeves Funeral Home in New Market. Rev. Calvin Miller will officiate at the services, after which burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery in Crawfordsville. Friends may call at the funeral hone after noon Saturday. The flag of the New Market post office will fly at half staff the day of the funeral.
