Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal, 27 October 1899

The angel of death has again visited our midst and took from us a dear mother and friend, Mrs. Jennie Lawton. She waa born in Fleming county, Kentucky, Oct 5, 1867, and departed this life Oct. 20, 1899. She leaves a huaband and four children, and a host of friends to mourn her loss. On Friday morning the angle came and took our dear one where there is no sorrows and disappointments but in land of love where all is joy and peace. Her sufferings ended with the day. Yet lived she at the close. She breathed the long night away.In statue like repose. But when the sun in all his state, Illumined the eastern skies, She passed through glory morning fate. And walked In Paradise. She joined the Methodista Episcopal church here in 1887, and lived a consistent member ever since She was married to Edward Lawton in 1888 and to their union were born four children, Minnie, Cecil, Ida and George. To know her was to love and respect her. She bore her illness of four months of that dreaded disease of consumption with patience and Christian fortitude The funeral was preached at the M. E church here by Rev. Dougherty, and she was laid to rest in the cemetery sonth of here.
Note: FindAGrave memorial has her in O'Neall cemetery, since there is no marker and no records, it is just a guess as to where she was laid to rest, so the memorial is in O'Neall becuase the obit stated "cemetery south of here" ? Which there are several cemeteries south of Crawfordsville?? - kim h
