Mrs. Merle (Alta Mae) Lawton, 63, of Rt. 2, Crawfordsville, died at 5 a.m. Friday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette. Mrs. Lawton, a 1935 graduate of Veedersburg High School, was a member of Smartsburg Christian Church, OES 97 and Delta Sigma Kappa Sorority. A native of Veedersburg, she was born Feb. 28, 1917, a daughter of Benjamin and Doris Thompson Fogleman. She married Byron Austin Keefe Feb. 29, 1936. He preceded her in death. On Feb. 8, 1975, she married Merle E. Lawton. Surviving with her husband are a son, Ben Keefe of Rt. 1, Crawfordsville; a stepdaughter, Billie Heinz of Rt. 6, Crawfordsville; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis O. McIntyre officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
