There was a terrible tragedy in the Myers neighborhood or in what is called "Germany" by the inhabitants of Alamo on last Thursday night. A young Florence Sowers was that day united in marriage to a man by the name of Lawson (Henry Davis Lawson) and at midnight she was a corpse. The cause of her summary taking off was in about this wise. A number of young men of the neighborhood were engaged in the pleasurable pastime of charivar (sic) the young couple and were ordered away, by the parents of the bride.
The bride of an hour and the groom, both were looking out of a second story window when a shot gun was discharged by some one and the lady fell dead. An examination made by the physicians proved that the gun was discharged by some on and the lady fell dead. An examination made by the physicians proved that the gun was only loaded with paper wads, one or more of which struck the unfortunate woman in the face, destroying the nose and smashing in her forehead.
She lived only about 5 minutes. The shot was manifestly not fired with a malicious intent. The funeral took place on Friday. Two young men respectively named Allen and Thomas have since been arrested for examination on charge of being the guilty parties. The whole is a sad affair - typed by kbz - submitted by Jerry Turner
