DARLINGTON – John W. “Deacon” Larrick, 77-year-old retired farmer and harness racing enthusiast, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Culver Hospital. For more than 50 years he owned and trained harness racing horses and was known at tracks throughout Indiana He also operated the family farm near here. Mr. Larrick retired three years ago. He was born here Feb. 25, 1891, a son of Robert H. and Rose Hollingsworth Larrick. Mr. Larrick was a member of the Darlington Methodist Church. Survivors include a brother, Penson H. Larrick of Darlington; a niece, Mrs. Melvin K. Royer of Linden, and a nephew, Robert C. Larrick of Kokomo. Another brother, James M. Larrick, is deceased. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the Bright Funeral Home in Darlington, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Robert Hansen will officiate, with burial in IOOF Cemetery here. – jlr
