Funeral services for Mrs. Henry S. LANE, whose death occurred suddenly Monday morning, will be held from the late home Lane Place at 2 Thursday afternoon. The services will be in charge of the First Methodist Church of which Mrs. Lane was for years an active member. Rev. Hierson will be assisted in conducting the service by Dr. Cobin of Greencastle, former president of DePauw University. Mrs. Lane's brother, Col. IC Elston returned home this morning from NY where he had gone and where a message giving him information of the sudden death of the noted woman reached him Monday. It is expected that a large number not only of Crawfordsville citizens, but also of notable persons from various parts of the country will be present at the funeral services in Lane Place. The services will be public but the burial in Oak Hill Cemetery will be of a private nature. A request has been made by relatives that friends sen no flowers to the home. - transcribed by kbz

The people of Crawfordsville were greatly shocked this morning by the announcement of the sudden death of Mrs. Henry S. Lane. She had been in feeble health since her serious illness last winter, the first in her long life and there had been a notable failure of strength within the last few weeks as increased languor and inability to do the things which heretofore she had undertaken with such vigor and ease.  Joanna M. Lane was the oldest of the nine children of Major Isaac C. Elston Sr and Maria Elston who were amongst the earliest and most prominent residents of Crawfordsville.  Of this large family, Sylvia who died at an early age, unmarried; James; Frank; Mrs. Eva Smith; Mrs. Hector Braden; Mrs. Aaron Blair and Mrs. Lew Wallac.  Mrs. Lane and Col. Isaac C. Elston were the last survivors… sorry – rest isn’t clear
