Mrs. Grace Ward Lambert, 73, widow of Ward “Piggy” Lambert, head basketball coach at Purdue University 29 years, died at 12:10 a.m. Sunday in Home Hospital where she was admitted April 6. Mrs. Lambert of 926 King St. was medical secretary at Arnett Clinic for many years before retiring eight years ago because of ill health. A native and life resident of Tippecanoe County, she was married in 1928 to Mr. Lambert, who died in 1958. In 1971 the old Purdue Fieldhouse was renamed "Lambert Fieldhouse" in honor of her late husband. During Mr. Lambert's career as coach at Purdue he won or shared 11 championships, more than any other coach in the Big Ten's history. Mrs. Lambert was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Ladies Elks and American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Henrietta) Kennedy of Stockwell, Mrs. Howard (Elizabeth) Buck of Fort Wayne and Mrs. J.R. (Lenora) Porter of East Liverpool, Ohio.
