MELLOTT — James Laird, 82, a former resident of the Mellott community, died Saturday in a nursing home at Kingfisher, Okla. He has been a patient there for about three years after suffering a heart attack and cerebral hemorage. Cause of death was pneumonia. Mr. Laird was the son of William and Rebecca Laird. After the death of his father, he lived with Mr. and Mrs. Don Carpenter, near Mellott. After their death, he resided with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Carpenter who also lived in the Mellott area. He attended Mellott Schools and the Mellott United Church of Christ. Mr. Laird was married to Mary Fretz of Mellott in 1914. She preceded him in death in 1926. About two years later he moved to Oklahoma where he remarried. His widow, Zetta, survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Carlene Goodin of Kingfisher, Okla.; a nephew, Robert Clements of Hillsboro; six grandchildren; nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Everette, and a sister, Fannie Clements. Funeral services were conducted today in Oklahoma.  --typed by Walt W

James Laird, 82, a resident of King Fisher, Okla., for the past 28 years and a former resident of Mellott, died Saturday (Jan. 22, 1972) at a nursing home in Oklahoma. He had been a patient there several years. Born near Mellott in 1890, he was the son of William and Rebecca Laird. His father died when he was a young boy and he was reared by Dan and Elizabeth Carpenter. After their death, he resided with Ed and Clara Carpenter in Mellott. He attended Mellott schools. He married Mary Fretz in 1914 at Mellott. She died in October, 1926. He later married Zetta Laird in Oklahoma, who survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Carlene Goodin; six grandchildren, a niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Everette Laird, and a sister, Mrs. Fannie Clements. The body is at a funeral home in King Fisher, Okla. Arrangements are incomplete. --- jlr
