Charles E. LaFollette, 77, Rt. 1 Crawfordsville was found dead about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday in the home in which he lived alone on the westside of the county line road just east of here. The sheriff's department said Mr. LaFollette was fatally stricken apparently while seated at a kitchen table reading the BIble. His body was lying beside his chair and his glasses had fallen off. Dr. Samuel Millis, county coroner investigated. The body was found by David Todd, a next door neighbor and Ben L. Stith of Shannondale, who said they had not seen Mr. Lafollette for a couple of days and went to his home. Todd called the sheriff's office when they discovered the body. Deputy Sheriff Ralph Linn said Mr. LaFollette was seen in the yard of his home Sunday. Dr. Millis attributed death to natural causes and said it probably occurred Sunday. Mr. Lafollette had lived in and near Shannondale all of his life. For many years, he was a fur buyer and he also was employed by the EB Jaques firm of Thorntown for a number of years. In early life he had been a professional baseball pitcher in the old Three-Eye League. Born in Montgomery County, he was the son of Joseph V. and Sylvia Coatney LaFollette. He was married March 10, 1909 at Crawfordsville to Lena B. Brown, who died Jan 20, 1920. The survivors include a granddaughter, Mrs. Lavona Jean Hitchcock and two great grandchildren. Two daughters, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Lafollette was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church at Shannondale and the Order of Eastern Star at Darlington. Funeral services will be at 3:30 Friday at Russell & Hitch Funeral Home, Thorntown with Rev. Arthur R. Jones in charge; burial in Shannondale Cemetery.
