Lafollette - Alice Buchanan

Darlington, Oct 12 - Mrs. Alice Elizabeth Lafollette, one of the oldest residents of this community died at 9:30 o'clock Wednesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Merritt Peebles, two miles south of Darlington. She was 83 years of age. Death was caused by complications developing after a fall on June 1 of this year in which Mrs. LaFollette suffered a broken hip. She was born in Montgomery County August 6, 1856, the daughter of William and Eliza Beck Buchanan, and on September 16, 1875, she was married to Joseph LaFollette. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Bess Holloway of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Lou Peebles of near Darlington; one son, Lee Lafollette, of Indianapolis, and four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also surviving is Clifford Arnold, of Lafayette who was reared in the home of Mr. and Mrs. LaFollette. The husband and one child preceded Mrs. LaFollette in death. Friends may pay their respects at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peebles, where the funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Rev. A.L. Miller, pastor of the Methodist Church will be in charge.
