Lady - Maude Smith Simmerman

Mrs. Maude M. Lady, 81, died at 5:20 a.m. Friday in Putnam County Hospital at Greencastle after an extended illness. She was born Oct. 6, 1894, in Clay County, a daughter of Bige and Idora Payne Smith. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Maxine Dickey, Mrs. Florence Wood, Mrs. Katherine Allee and Mrs. Marguerite Grimes, all of Greencastle, and Mrs. Margaret Rae Browning of Crawfordsville; four sons, Ora G. Lady, James Simmerman and Dora F. Simmerman, all of Greencastle, and James Russell Lady of Crawfordsville; 35 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Simmerman who died in 1927, and by her second husband, Ora A. Lady, who died in 1959. A son, Robert L. Simmerman, was killed in action in World War II. A grandchild and great-grandchild are also deceased. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Rector Funeral Home at Greencastle with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.   -– jlr
