Charles E. Lacy, 94, who for many years was identified prominently with the business and civic life in Crawfordsville, died in the home of a granddaughter, Mrs. Alice Cochran Young, at Framingham, Mass. Born at Bluffton where he spent his boyhood, Mr. Lacey lived in Crawfordsville from 1892 to 1927. For several years he operated the Lacey Book Store in the 100 block of East Main Street and later was a partner in the Claypool-Lacey Music Co., in the Ben Hur Building. The family home was in the 300 block of West Main Street. Mr. Lacey was a founder and charter ember of the Crawfordsville Commercial Club, predecessor of the Chamber of Commerce. He also was an active member of the First Methodist Church and all of Crawfordsville’s Masonic bodies. Mr. Lacey married Alice Studebaker of South Bend in 1887. Mrs. Lacey died in 1925. Mr. Lacey had lived in Framingham since 1946. He also lived in Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Huntington, W. Va., since leaving Crawfordsville. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Morris Cochran of Framingham, and the granddaughter at whose home he died. In addition to the wife he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Masonic rites will be held at Framingham Tuesday. The body will be cremated and the ashes brought to Crawfordsville for burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. - transcribed by kbz
