Darlington -- Funeral services for Charles F. Leas a resident of Darlington for more than 50 years were held Thursday afternoon in the Congregational Christian Church. Rev. Ernest Terber, pastor of the church was the officiating minister, Lloyd Wells sang In the Garden and God Understands with Mrs. Glen Carson playing the organ accompaniment. Pallbearers were Wayne Anderson, George Martin and William Clawson of Linden, Merton Stwalley, Darlington, Robert Leas of Hammond and C. Clarke Woods of Gary. They also assisted with flowers. Burial in Greenlawn cemetery here. Mr. Leas, 84 died Tuesday morning at the Liter Nursing Home in Crawfordsville where he had been a patient five days. He had been seriously ill since suffering a stroke late in Decemeber.  -- typed by kbz

Charles F. Leas, 84, prominent cattle raiser of Darlington died Tuesday morning at Liter Nursing Home here where he had been a patient 5 days. Born at St. Joseph, ill March 13, 1870, Mr. Leas was the son of Abner and Ella Leas. He married Mary Esther Bowers of St. Joseph Ill in 1893. She died Oct 10, 1942. Mr. and Mrs. Leas moved to Montgomery Co in 1900 from Missouri where they established residence following their marriage. After operating a farm in Montgomery County 3 years, Mr. Leas moved to Frankfort where he resided a few years. Since then the family home has been in Darlington. Mr. Leas was a member of the Darlington Congregational Christian Church and Montgomery County Farm Bureau. Surviving are a foster daughter, Audrey L. Cox, a teacher in the Darlington School, a granddaughter, Judith Jo Cox, Purdue University student; a niece, newphew, half brother, Frank Leas, Hammond and half sister, mrs. William Z. Black, Champaign Ill. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Myrta Kirkaptrick. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Darlington Christian Church followed by burial at Darlington Greenlawn Cemetery, Rev. Ernest F. Treber, pastor of the church will be the officiating minister. Friends may call at the Leas home in Darlington after noon Wednesday.   -- typed by kbz
