Tuesday afternoon about 3 o'clock while
putting up hay on the Ed Conrad farm, West of town, Jerald Lawton was
overcome with the heat. He was working on a wagon at the time and had
previously been warned by his fellow workmen not to work so hard as the
day was unusually hot. The warning was not heeded and a short time after
he fell from the wagon. He suffered intensely and it took the combined
efforts of 3 men to hold him and remove him to the shade. A physician
was called and a short time after he was taken to the home of his
mother, Mrs. Ed Little 2 miles north of town. About 1 o'clock Wednesday morning a decided change came for the better and he is now well on the
road to recovery. For several months in the past he had conducted a
photograph gallery at Jamestown but had recently closed out his business
there with the expectation of going to Kansas. However he had decided
to spend a couple of weeks at home and it is thought his not being
accustomed to the excessive heat was the cause of the stroke.
