Word has been received of the death of Robert K. Krout in Crawfordsville, Indiana on APril 25. He was the father of Miss Mary H. Krout, the well known newspaper woman once on the staff of The Advertiser. Her many friends in the Island will regret to hear of her sorrow. - kbz

Crawfordsville, Ind April 25 - Robert Kennedy Krout, age 83 died early this morning at his home in this city of senility. Mr. Krout was one of the city' soldest and most distinguished citizens, and had been a resident of Crawfordsville for more than three score and ten years. He was a native of Covington, Ky and came to Montgomery County with his parents when 11 years old. Mr. Krout entered Wabash College when 17 years of age and was graduated with the class of 1848 being one of the college's oldest alumni.  Mr. Krout studied law under Governor Morehead of Kentucky and later with former US Senator Henry S. Lane and Samuel C. Willson, pioneer attorneys of Crawfordsville but as he himself said, he could not reconcile his conscience to the practice of law, so gave it up and for 40years was a druggist and chemist here. He lived a retired life in recent years on account of deafness.

Mr. Krout was a Republican and attended the first Republican convention in 1856 when Fremont was nominated for the presidency. He was for years deeply interested in education work in this city and was a member of the board of school trusteed here for 21 years.  He was instrumental in the establishment of Crawfordsville's graded school system and helped build the first brick school building erected in the city.  Mr. Krout was married in the fall of 1848, to Miss Caroline Brown, a daughter of Dr. Ryland T. Brown, a pioneer physician here and sister of Admiral George Brown of Indianpalis. SHe died in 1873.

Mr. Krout is survived by 7 children: Miss Mary Hannah Krout of Chicago, a newspaper writer and correspondent; Mrs. Harry Scearce of Seattle, Wash; Mrs. James D. Bigelow of Terre Haute; Miss Caroline Brown Krout, author of Knights of Fustian and other stories and the Misses Jane and Roberta Krout and Robert Krout of this city.  Mr. Krout was a member of the Masonic Lodge and also of the Christian church of this city. The funeral services will take place Wednesday morning at the quaint old home at College Street and Grant Avenue one of Crawfordsville's oldest landmarks. The burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. - kbz
