Wingate - Walter "Kooney" Koon, 75, of Wingate died early Friday morning in VA Hospital at Danville, Ill. Mr. Koon had been ill a week and patient in the hospital since Tuesday. He was born April 18, 1895, in Wingate to George and Serena Grady Koon. He never married. Mr. Koon was a barber in Wingate until his retirement in 1948. He had lived in the Wingate commjnity all his life and attended Wingate schools. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ and Wingate American Legion Post. He was a veteran of WWI. Surviving are a half sister, Mrs. Clarence Rusk of Waynetown; a half-brother, Fred Lawson of Hobbs, NM and 7 nieces and four nephews. Preceding him in death were a brother, Rolla Koon and two sisters, Mrs. Marie Bible and Mrs. Nellie Howard. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday by Rev. Homer Hunsinger of Lebanon in Servies-Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday. - typed by kbz
