Imogene Koenecke (nee Washburn) a longtime resident of Blue Island, died Friday Feb 23 at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Blue Island with Rev. Glenn Blackwelder officiating. Interment will be in First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Alsip. Visitation will be today from 2-8 p.m. at Krueger Funeral Home, Blue Island. The former Imogene Washburn was born July 5, 1907 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Along with her husband, Robert, she owned and operated FT Tobacco Co Blue Island, a company started by Robert’s grandfather before the turn of the century. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Francis Hospital and Health Center, Blue Island and was active in First evangelical Lutheran Church’s Women of the Church and its Evangelism Committee. She is survived by a sister, Mary Dunihue of California and her dear friend, Eleanor Brethauer and Georgia Veyette. Her husband, Robert died April 29, 1986.
