The Riverdale, (Neb) Press thus chronicles the death of a man who had many friends in Montgomery County: “William Knox, an old and respected citizen of Buffalo County, met with a sad accident a few days ago which caused his death. While attempting to catch one of his horses he was kicked, the blow falling upon his stomach. Medical aid was called, but no relief could be given. He died after five days of intense suffering.  Mr. Knox was a native of Kentucky, where he was born on March 11, 1843, and lived until he reached his majority. Though his native state during the Civil War for a time desired to remain neutral, not so with Mr. Knox, but early in the struggle he enlisted to uphold the flag he loved. He was the father of five children, four of whom, with their mother, live to mourn the sudden departure of a loving husband and father.  The deceased was married to Miss Emma Trimble in 1867, and about twenty years ago they came to Nebraska and settled on the farm where he died. Twenty five years ago he became a member of the Christian Church and during this time has lived a consistent Christian life. Through years of prosperity and adversity his desire to live near the Master never failed him. As in life he was respected by all who knew him, so in death a large gathering of neighbors and friends met to show the respect due one who had always proved a good neighbor, kind husband and loving father. The sympathies of all are with the family in their bereavement.  He was a member of the Grand Army and according to custom the old soldiers took charge at the grave with appropriate ceremonies. He has gone to his reward, but his works live on to influence men.” – thanks to S for this one
