Hillsboro - (James) Earl Knox, 90, died at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday in the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Danville, Ill where he had resided for the past year and a half. He lived at Hillsboro for 62 years and as owner of the Hillsboro Tavern until his retirement in 1968. He was a member of the Covington VFW and the Hillsboro American Legion. He attended schools in South Dakota and was an Army veteran serving in WWI. Mr. Knox was born July 7, 1895 in Aberdeen, SD, a son of James D. and Margaret Mansfield Knox. He was married at Paris, Ill on June 21, 1928 to Beatrice Bailey. She preceded him in death Jan 22, 1972. Surviving are a stepdaughter, Jean Wood of Logansport; a newphew, Claire Lane of Tuscola, Ill; a stepgrandson and three step great grandchildren. Two sisters and two brothers are deceased.
Note: Mr. Knox donated his body to medical science and there will be no visitation or services. Crumley-Williams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. - kbz
