All of our older citizens remember M. M. Knox, at one time the principal merchant of our town, who also served in the 135th Regiment Indiana Volunteers, came home and died here soon after. His wife inherited his estate and soon after left here possessed of considerable money. A few weeks ago she returned penniless and old age coming on, she was compelled to seek refuge in the soldier’s home, was admitted in the Lafayette home and went there Tuesday where she will probably end her days and will be well cared for by the state.
