Freeman Knowles 82 prominent grain dealer in West central Indiana and lifelong resident of Fountain County died at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday April 15 1953 at Lakeview Memorial Hospital in Danville Illinois. He was a patient there three days following an illness of one and one half years. Born near Veedersburg March 29 1881 he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Knowles. On April 7 1910 he married the former Jessie L. Coffing in Crawfordsville, she died Aug 24, 1955. He started in the Aylesworth area as a grain dealer in 1917 and spent most of his life in that business, eventually owning elevators in Aylesworth, Stonebluff, Veedersburg, Mellott, RobRoy and Attica. He was member of the County Council, for 28 years. Survivors include two sons Milford and Reed Knowles both of Attica rural route; 5 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A sister Mrs. Ada Cole died last year. He belonged to the Union Congregational Christian Church east of Aylesworth. Services were conducted at the Desutter Funeral home in Attica at 2 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. Louis Haskell pastor of the First Methodist Church in Attica. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Attica.
