Kleiser - Joseph Samuel

Joseph S. Kleiser was born on August 27, 1821 in Bourbon County, Kentucky and died June 17, 1905 age 83 years 9 months and 20 days. He was the second son of Goerge and Elizabeth (McLoed) Kleiser. The father died when the deceased was but two years of age and the widowed mother with her three sons removed from Kentucky to Indiana in the year 1834, locating on the farm east of Waveland now owned by Henry Fullenwider. At that time the country in this vicinity was but sparsely settled, being practically a wilderness, the town of Waveland then containing one or two houses. Some years later the family removed fromt he farm to Waevland, where the 3 brothers worked for a time at the carpenter trae, building some of the oldest houses now standing in town. Joseph S. Kleiser was born August 27, 1821 in Bourbon County, Kentucky, and died June 17, 1905, at his home in Waveland, Ind., aged eighty-three years, nine months and twenty days. He was the second son of George and Elizabeth McLoed Kleiser. His father died when the deceased was two years of age and his widowed mother with the three sons removed from Kentucky to Indiana in 1834, locating on the farm east of Waveland, now owned by Henry Fullenwider. At that time the country was practically a wilderness, Waveland containing but one or two houses. Some years later the family removed from the farm to Waveland where the brothers worked for a time at the carpenter’s trade, building some of the oldest houses in town. The deceased in 1850 moved upon a farm about one-half mile east of town, where he continued to reside more than fifty years. Becoming infirm by reason of his advancing age he moved to Waveland in the fall of 1904, where he spent the rest of his life. October 18, 1842, he married Mary T. Watson. To them were born six children, Savannah A., George W., Samuel Monroe, James H., Charles A. and Arthur J. Mrs. Kleiser died January 24, 1867. Her death was followed by that of Savannah, who died March 18, 1868. Then followed his mother’s death (who had lived with him since his marriage), February 24, 1870. April 18, 1872, death again entered the home taking his son Samuel Monroe. On March 18, 1869 he was married to Louisa Neely, who with the four remaining sons, survive him and were with him in the last days of his illness and the hour of his death. Besides his wife and sons he is survived by his elder brother, James A. Kleiser of Cloverdale, Cal., who is eighty-seven years of age, his other brother, Henry G. Kleiser, father of Mrs. T. L. Hanna, having died in 1886. He became a member of the Waveland Presbyterian Church when a young man, which membership he retained at the time of his death. The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church Monday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. W. F. Gibson, after which the body was laid to rest in the Presbyterian Cemetery. -- thanks sooo much to Sue P. for this one :)
