Charles Edward Kitts, 33, a resident of Crawfordsville until he took up residence in California 8 years ago, died Friday night in Long Beach, Calif. Death was due to a heart attack. Word of his death was received Saturday morning by his father, James A. Kitts, 716 W. Wabash Avenue. Mr. Kitts, the son of James A. and Myrtle Georgia Bayless Kitts, was born in Crawfordsville, April 2, 1922 and spent his boyhood here. He was graduated from the Crawfordsville HS with the class of 1940. He was employed as a pressman at the RR Donnelley & Sons Company plant; both before he enlisted in the Navy in WWII and also for a period following his discharge 3 1/2 years later. Mr. Kitts enlisted in the Navy Nov 2, 1942 two years and 5 months following his graduation from high school. He served with the Navy in the Pacific. For a portion of the time he was in the service he was on duty in California. Mr. Kitts married July 12, 1945 Aileen Bullis, a California girl whom he met while in the service. Their daughter, Susan Aileen, was born here May 23, 1946. About 8 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Kitts and their daughter went to California where he had since resided and where he was employed in a chain grocery store. Mr. Kitts held membership in the First Christian Church in Crawfordsville and also Ben Hur Life Association. Survivors include the father, residing in Crawfordsville, two brothers, Robert Kitts of Crawfordsville and Donald Kitts of Denver, Colo; and three sisters, Mrs. George Young, Bloomington; Mrs. H Donald Ray of Indianapolis and Mrs. Jane Leaming of Romney. Funeral services for Mr. Kitts were incomplete Saturday morning. Services and burial will burial will take place in California. - kbz
