"Funeral services for Mrs. J.A. Kirkpatrick, who passed away last Tuesday afternoon, were held Thursday afternoon from the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. H.S. Wilkinson. Musical numbers were provided by Mrs. John Carter and Mrs. Roscoe Dempster. Pallbearers were Jay Swaney, C.B. Chambers, George Hafkey, R.B. Work, Norman Pilgrim and L. Powers. Burial was in Hazelwood.
"Nancy Jane Irons was born in Highland County, Ohio, October 18, 1843, and moved to Montgomery County, Indiana, with her parents in 1852.
She was married to John Austin Kirkpatrick on October 25, 1865.
"In 1883 they moved to Iowa and in 1896 purchased their home adjoining Grinnell. On October 25, 1915, they celebrated their golden wedding. Before her husband died in May 1928 they celebrated their 62nd anniversary.
"After Mr. Kirkpatrick's death she spent most of her time in Grinnell with the exception of a few months when she visited with her daughter, Mrs. E.D. Starbird, in Denver, Colorado.
"Mrs. Kirkpatrick has been an active member of the Methodist church in this city since 1896. She was also a member of the Woman's Relief Corps.
"Among her pleasant memories was the observance of her 90th birthday last year, and she was making eager plans for her 91st birthday this year when they were interrupted by her death.
"Mrs. Kirkpatrick leaves to mourn for her, three children, James A. Kirkpatrick of Vienna, Georgia, who was unable to attend; Mrs. A. Maude Starbird of Denver, Colo., and T.B. Kirkpatrick of Grinnell; also five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and two younger sisters, Mrs. Garrett Snyder of Buena Park, Calif., and Mrs. Belle Gray of Indianapolis, Ind."
