Mrs. Lois J. Kirkpatrick, 82, widow of J. Frank Kirkpatrick and a former Crawfordsville resident, died at 4:35 a.m. Tuesday at Comfort, Inc., nursing home in Lafayette. Mrs. Kirkpatrick had been ill since being overcome by smoke Feb. 20 while visiting a grandson, Edward K. Moore, in Beaufort, S.C. A malfunctioning wall furnace was blamed. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was admitted to the U.S. Naval Hospital at Beaufort, where she remained until March 9. She was then flown to St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, and was a patient there until March 22 when she entered Comfort, Inc. Born March 2, 1887, in Crawfordsville, Mrs. Kirkpatrick was the daughter of William H. Johnston and Ella May McMullen Johnston. She was reared in Crawfordsville and was married here March 25, 1908. She was graduated from Crawfordsville High School in. 1906. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a former Northwest Indiana Conference president of the Women’s Society of Christian Services, an eight-year member of the Commission of World Services, and was a delegate to the church’s general conference San Francisco in 1952. She taught the Challenger Class in Lafayette for 22 years. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. John C. Moore of Lafayette; one son, Robert W. Kirkpatrick of Lafayette; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Louanna Kirkpatrick of Frankfort six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted at Landis-Loy Mortuary, 914 Columbia St., Lafayette, at 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. James F. Morin in charge. The body will be in state at the church for one hour prior to the services. Friends may call at the mortuary after 4 p.m. Wednesday. burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Crawfordsville. Persons desiring may contribute to the Lois J. Kirkpatrick Memorial Fund of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lafayette. – jlr
