Edwin J. Kirkpatrick well known farmer of Richland Township died this morning at his home east of Newtown. Several members in the families of his relatives had been ill of the flu for the last few weeks and Mr. Kirkpatrick who possessed exceptional qualities as a nurse assisted in the care of these patients. Last Saturday he succumbed to the disease and pneumonia soon developed. Wednesday his condition was very serious and a specialist from Crawfordsville was called who made an effort to relieve him by inserting a silver tube into his windpipe. The patient grew steadily worse and died at an early hour this morning. Mr. Kirkpatrick was born in Tippecanoe County August 12, 1853. Later he with his parents, Franklin and Helen Smith Kirkpatrick moved to Montgomery County where he grew to manhood on the home farm. In 1880 he married Miss Ida M. Martin and then took up residence on a farm in Richland Township where he grew to be a successful farmer and stock raiser. He is survived by his wife and four sons: Frank and George of Richland Township; J. Arthur, attorney of Detroit and John of New Richmond and one daughter, Miss Ruth who resides at home. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon from the home and burial will be made at Meharry Cemetery. – kbz
