Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Thursday, 12 February 1874
John Killison died at the residence of his brother-in-law, Mr. Jonathan Beal, two miles northwest of this city Feb. 3 at 12 o’clock, of spinal disease. Mr. John Killison was aged 33 years.
Deceased died as he had lived for several years, a consistent Christian. He had been in feeble health for the past year. In company with his sister, Mrs. Clark, and her little daughter, he was visiting relatives in this vicinity. They had been here but two short weeks when he was confined to his bed, where he lingered about fourteen days, a great portion of the time unconscious. His wife was telegraphed to and arrived three days previous to his death. Although it was thought by friends that he knew her, he never revived so he could speak to her.
He leaves a wife and three small children, together with a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. His remains left on the 6 a.m. train Feb. 4, for his home, Polk City, Iowa, accompanied by his bereaved wife, Mrs. Jonathan Killison, Charles Clark and wife, and little Claire. Thus ended in death and sorrow what otherwise would have been a pleasant and happy visit.
