The funeral services of Joseph Keys of Terre Haute were held at the Christian church here this morning at ten and were conducted by Rev. S.G. Smith of Ladoga. His body was laid to rest in the Masonic cemetery. Joseph Keys was born July 29, 1843, and died January 19, 1911, at Terre Haute, aged 67 years,, 5 months, 19 days. He was left an orphan. Uncle Sant Gray and his good wife of near Wesley Chapel took Joseph and his baby sister Eveline and tenderly cared for them until they were grown. At the age of 23 years he went to the civil war as a private in Company D, 63rd regiment, Indiana Infantry. He was later transferred to Company E, 128th Infantry. He was married to Emily B. Harris Armstrong October 20, 1887. To them were born two children, Minnie, now Mrs. James H. Everson of Ladoga, and C. Morton Keys of Terre Haute. Three stepsons survive, John S., of Danville, Illinois, James M. of Terre Haute, and W.O. Armstrong, of Indianapolis. These three sons he loved and tenderly cared for as his own. When he was quite young he united with the Baptist church at Waynetown, and 20 years ago placed his membership with the Christian church at Whitesville. He leaves a devoted wife and five loving children, one brother and one sister and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death.
