Browns Valley - A rural Waveland man died about noon Tuesday when the tractor he was riding flipped on top of him. Dead is Evarts Keys, 74 of Rt. 1, Waveland. Ambulance attendants said the man was dead upon their arrival at the scene. Dep. Charles Stewart said the man apparently was mowing weeds in a ditch on his farm when the front wheel of the trator slipped and it rolled on top of him. Stewart said the trator rolled over once and trapped the man under the vehicle. Montgomery County Coroner Russell Powers said death was instantaneous and he suffered mutliple injuries including a crushed chest, broken neck and multiple fractures. The offical cause listed suffication. Stewart said firemen from Crawfordsville and a wrecker worked to free the man from the tractor for nearly 30 minutes. He was born July 31, 1902 in Breckenridge Co kY to JW & Alwilda Dutschke Keys. He was married to Elsie Chappell in KY Feb 14, 1925. Mr. Keys was a member, pastor, deacon and moderator of Browns Valley Mission Baptist Church and 50-year member of Roachdale Maosnic Lodge. He also served several years as moderator for Freedom Baptst Association. Besides farming for 20 years, Mr. Keys was a carpenter. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Jim of Indaianpolis and Bill of Fairfmount; two daughters, Mrs. Leland (Midlred) Thompson and Mrs. David (Dottie) Kincaid, both of Crawfordsville 3 brothers, Lonnie and John of Lodiburg, KY and Joe of Lousville, Ky; a sister, Mrs. Kate Payne of Edingburg, TX; 16 grandch and 11 great grandch. Funeral services are sched for 2 p.m. Friday in Machled & Servies Funeral Home, Waveland. The Rev. Raymond Sketon will be officiating. Burial in Freedom Cemetery, Waveland. Masonic services are scheduled for 8 p.m. Thusday. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Thursday. - kbz
