Wingate – Mrs. Dora Kessler, 90, of Wingate died early this morning in the Covington Manor Nursing Home. She had been a patient there for three weeks. Mrs. Kessler had made her home with a niece, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Black, at Danville, Ill., for the past 2 ½ years. Prior to that she lived in Wingate. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in Montgomery and Fountain counties. She was a graduate of Purdue University and had done post-graduate work at the University of Wisconsin. She was a member of New Hope Chapel Church at Wingate. Mrs. Kessler was born May 1, 1890, near The Shades State Park in Montgomery County, a daughter of George W. and Sarah Twiddy Haxton. She married Howard Kessler in 1914. He preceded her in death in 1956. She is survived by three nephews, Dale Haxton of Lafayette, Avery Haxton of Attica and Donald Haxton of Danville, Ill., and two nieces, Mrs. Black of Danville, Ill., and Mrs. Juanetta Clem or North Canton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday in Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with the Rev. Tom Stark officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery at Wingate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Friday. smc
