Caroline V. KROUT, sister of the late Mary Hannah Krout and one of Crawfordsville's best known women passed away at the Culver Hospital Friday night following a brief illness. Although miss Krout had been in declining health for the past two years her condition was not regarded as serious until a few days ago. She was taken to the hospital Wednesday, the cause of her death being attributed to intestinal trouble. Miss Krout passed away at 10;45. Caroline V. Krout was 78 and was born in Crawfordsville, daughter of Robert K. and Carolive V. Krout. She was a life-long resident of this city and for many years had been a member of the First Christian Church. Miss Krout like her sister held a position of prominence as an author. Her first work to receive attention was published in 1900 when she wrote Knights in Fustian. Miss Krout continued her writings and in 1905 Bold Robin and Forest Angers were published. It was also in this year that she wrote, We-A-Trail. One of her last novels of prominence was written in 1911 when she completed Donis of the White Veil. Miss Krout was also a short6 story writer of ability and contributed several articles to newspapers on special subjects. She was a charter member of the Athenian Club and assisted in the organization of the Current Events Club of which she was also a charter member. To what extent she succeeded as a writer is shown by the fact that her accomplishments are listed in Who's Who in America. Two magazines in which Miss Krout's short stories appeared for several years were the St. Nicholas and the Cosmopolitan. She is survived by a brother, Robert Krout; two sisters, Miss Jane Krout and Miss Robert Krout, all of this city. The funeral services will be conducted at the home, 416 S. Grant Ave, Monday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev JH Wilson of First Christian Church officiating. -- typed by kbz
