WAYNETOWN -- Clarence (Peanut) Keys, 70, died at 1:45 p.m. Monday in the state sanitarium at Rockville after a long illness. He had been a patient there since Oc. 1, 1961 and in failing health several years. Born in this community July 21, 1892, he was a son of John and Hulda Poole Keys. He was married Oct. 26, 1910 to Evelyn McElwee at Veedersburg. She preceded him in death. Mr. Keys was a member of the Waynetown Baptist Church. He was a foreman at the Veedersburg brick plant and later worked five years at Hammond for Lever Bros. He last was employed as custodian at the Waynetown School. After his wife's death he made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Frank Biggs of Rt. 4 Crawfordsville. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Roy Davis of Waynetown and Mrs. Helen Biggs; two sons, Alfred of Hammond and Raymond of Lancing, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Golda Goins of Terre Haute and Mrs. Esther Brown of Crawfordsville, and a brother, Aura Keys of Crawfordsville. Deceased are a grandchild, a brother, Alfred, and a sister, Mrs. Ora Gilfillen. Services are announced for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Servies Funeral Home Rev. Lewis Poore will officiate, and burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
