Wingate - Funeral rites for Mrs. Myrtle Kennedy, 79, a life resident here who died Wednesday (5-12) will be conducted Friday at Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Wingate. Rev. Jean McCan will officiate, with interment in Wingate's Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. Mrs. Kennedy was a member of the Wingate United Methodist Church and taught a Sunday School class many years. She was educated here, attending Wingate HS. A daughter of John and Martha Hocker Doss, she was born here April 8, 1892. She married Jim Kennedy of Wingate on Jan 8, 1911. He died in May 1962. Mrs. Kennedy was the last of a family of 8 children. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Willman of Lafayette and Mrs. Joan Johnson of Wingate; a granddaughter, Mrs. Patricia Mitchell, who made her home with Mrs. Kennedy; a grandson, Mike Willman in the US Coast Guard and a great great granddaughter. Besides her husband, a son in infancy and three brothers and four sisters of Mrs. Kennedy preceded her in death. - transcribed by kbz
