John C. Kennedy, 83, Civil War Veteran died at his home, 310 Canby Avenue, Thursday monring at 9:15 o'clock. Death was due to a complication of diseases. Mr. Kennedy was the second veteran of the war between the states to die in this city within the past 3 days, James C. Chadwick, 92, having died at his home on Poplar Street early Tuesday morning. Mr. Kennedy was a life long resident of this city having been born here in 1845. He was the son of Daniel and Caroline Kennedy. During the Civil War, Mr. Kennedy enlisted as a member of the 16th Indiana Battery and served for the remainder of the war. He was a member of McPherson post of the Grand Army of the Republic. The survivors include 3 daughters, Mrs. June Holmes, Mrs. Atlanta Keesee and Mrs. Ray Linn the later of Wisconsin; a son, Frank Kennedy of this city; 21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The funeral services will be held at Proffitt & Son Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. Anderson in charge. Burial in Oak HIll Cemetery. The death of Mr. Kennedy leaves only 5 surviving Civil War veterans in the city. They are Joseph Airhart, Dr. EH Cowan, Patrick Henry Lalley, Peter Schreiner, Sr. and David Mitchell, the latter a colored man who served with the Union Army. Four other veterans live int he county John W. Logan of Ladoga; William McCarthy of Wingate; Albert Booher of Darlington and John C. Knox of Whitesville.

Note: This is interesting - I had someone else send me this same obit in the same paper but there are a couple of differences - from that John may have been 89 vs. 83.

past 3 days = three is written out

Instead of The Funeral services it just says services in the other rendition

Toward end Union Army army is not capped in the other one

Basically it says the exact same thing but oddly a little diff especially the age
