Kelso - Nancy McMains

-- Mrs. William R. Kelso, who has been in poor health for a long time with asthma and a complication of diseases, died at her home on W. Main St, on Sunday morning. Funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Milo J. Smith being in charge. Interment at Maple Ridge.
The following obituary was read: "Nancy McMAINS was born near Waveland Dec 7, 1836; and died at the age of 77 Y 6M. She was one of 13 children, having 8 brothers and 4 sisters, of whom but 7 survive her, four sisters and 3 brothers: Mrs. Almyra petty of Oomulgee OK; Mrs. James Alfrey of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Miranda Ellis of New Market; Mrs. HA Pratt of Waveland; Anderson and Robert McMains of Crawfordsville and Phillip McMains of Rossville, ILL. Her early girlhood was spent on the farm of her father, Robert McMains, Uncle Bob, as most of us knew him -- now owned by James Odell. She imbibed the spirit of religion in the day s of her youth, giving her hand to the Church, and her heart to God. She joined the Christian Church at Antioch, just E. of Waveland. When the Church of her choice was organized in Waveland, she became a charter member and lived a consistent Christian life until she was called hence. She was married to William Kelso, March 4, 1857, with whom she walked hand in hand for more than half a century. She was the mother of 3 children: the eldest, Viola, preceded her to the Great Beyond; Mrs. RL Rusk and Robert Kelso, with the husband, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive and call her blessed. Two grandchildren have passed away." Those present from a distance were: Anderson, Benjamin, Elsie and Josephine McMains, Mr. and Mrs. Robert McMains and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James Alfrey of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Miranda Ellis Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ellis, Mr. and Mrs. O.B Groves of New Market; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ramo; Mr. and Mrs. William Rambo; Mrs. Grimes and son, Earl of Morton; Mr. and Mrs. AC Groves and daughter, of Waynetown Mr. and Mrs. Harry McMains; Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred McMains, and Jacob Wilcox of Lebanon. - transcribed by kbz - PLEASE do not copy this without permission
