Kelley, Donald L
Don L. Kelly passed away Wednesday morning at Lane House. He was 81.
Born June 11, 1939 in Crawfordsville, he was the son of Max Kelly and Katherine Grimes Kelly. He married Sara Holladay in 1975 and they later divorced. He adopted Sara’s son, Tom, who passed away Sept. 14, 1987.
Don graduated from Russellville High School in 1957. In school, he was active with 4-H, where he won awards for swine and cattle. He went to business college in Indianapolis, earning an associate’s degree in business. He was drafted into the Army in 1962, stationed in the state of Washington. He was soldier of the month at his post in January 1964. He was discharged as a Sergeant E-5 with the 4th Infantry.
He worked at Allison’s in Indianapolis until an automobile accident changed his life. He later went to work at Inland Container, where he worked 31 years, until retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Russellville Community Church.
Surviving family includes two sisters, Kay Lynch of Crawfordsville and Dixie Arnold of Covington.
In addition to his son, Tom Kelly, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 PM Saturday at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Avenue, Crawfordsville. Services with military rites will begin at 2 PM. Burial will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Darlington.
